New York CE Requirements
NY Board of Nursing continuing education rules
Renewal Deadline
Licenses renew every 3 years (registration period). Infection control is required every 4 years. Renewal date is based on registration period end date.
Mandatory Topics
Must be completed every 4 years. Approved by NYSED. Must contain 7 core elements. No set hour count, but course must cover all mandated content areas.
2-hour mandatory training on identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. Updated curriculum due to amendments to Social Services Law 413. One-time requirement once completed.
Additional Notes
New York has a unique structure: no general CE hour requirement for RNs/LPNs, but specific mandatory courses (infection control every 4 years, child abuse one-time). The 3 contact hours listed represents the approximate combined time for these mandatory courses. There is no requirement to complete a specific total number of elective CE hours.
