Renewal Deadline
Licenses renew every 2 years. Expiration date is based on the nurse's birth month.
Mandatory Topics
North Carolina does not require specific mandatory topics. All CE hours may be in topics relevant to your practice area.
Additional Notes
Nurses have multiple competency options: 15 CE hours plus 640 hours of practice, or 30 CE hours with no practice requirement, or alternative options like nursing project completion or publication. NPs must earn 50 hours/year with at least 20 meeting ANCC/ACCME formal criteria. Prescribing APRNs need 1 hour on controlled substance prescribing practices and signs of abuse.
